Trains provide a fascinating blend of technology, color, and landscape for the painter. The hard shiny (or sooty) steel of the locomotive contrasts nicely with the organic and often hazy shapes of the landscape through which it travels. Here and there you get other signs of human habitation: houses, telegraph poles, industries, and such. For many, trains evoke a feeling of nostalgia, as the railroad as a mode of transport has faded from view for most Americans. And there's a certain appeal to painting what is now a fading societal memory. There is also an unlimited supply of subjects to paint, whether inspired by old photographs or modern-day rights-of-way.
Paintings on Commission
I create paintings on commission, such as your personal airplane, a favorite boat, ship, or train, or your beloved hot rod. I can even resurrect historical scenes that were never captured on film (such as my painting Hit My Smoke), or create new scenes from your imagination. A new specialty is paintings of your model railroad layout, made to look as if it were the real world.
