Watercolor pencil on paper, approximately 9 x 6 inches.
This is one of two pieces developed from a black and white photo I shot in Durango, Colorado. The other is an acrylic painting, also shown on this site. This watercolor pencil drawing depicts Durango & Silverton Narrow Gauge engine #473 just as it crosses a bridge on the outskirts of town, headed toward Silverton. #473 is a K-28-type Mikado, which actually carried a lot of equipment on the front of its smokebox. But to turn this into an appropriate Christmas card, I had to creatively remove that equipment to make room for the wreath. #473 was formerly owned and operated by the Denver & Rio Grande Western, the great narrow gauge railroad empire of the American West.
