Acrylic on canvas panel. 11 x 8.25 inches.
The SNJ was the U.S. Navy version of the AT-6 Texan trainer used by the U.S. Army Air Corps and Air Force. I started this painting as an exercise to capture the reflections, and it developed a life of its own. This painting won First in its Category at the 2013 Sonoma County Fair. It was painted from a photo taken by a friend at an air show in 2012. Photos are vital references for paintings like this, as aircraft seldom stand still long enough to suit an artist.
At right, the painting with its prize ribbon.
